5 third position licks in the lower octave

This lesson is for all of you who have played third position starting on the 4 draw and are too afraid to go below into the lower octave. It is scary stuff with some pretty serious bends but worth the effort as it sounds almost like a saxophone!

If you don’t know third position

If you haven’t heard of third position you should probably do this lesson first – How to play in third position on harmonica

Big bends

There are three super heavy-weight bends you need to master in this position.

  • 2 draw whole step bend (F note on a C harmonica)
  • 3 draw 1 1/2 step bend (Ab on a C harmonica)
  • 3 draw whole step bend (A on a C harmonica) click here for my 5 tips on tips on playing the 3 draw whole step bend

Play them slowly and try to find a guitarist or pianist to check you are playing the correct notes. You can also use an electronic tuner to see if you are hitting them bang on.
